Now is the Joker’s turn, although his past is handled entirely with dialogue, not flashbacks. The actors are all excellent. The Dark Knight is two and a half hours long, but it never meanders off track; instead it is packed to the brim with action, ideas, well-drawn character moments and surprisingly effective drama.

In order to save his life and escape, he constructs a high-tech armored suit and escapes, upending his captors. Once he manages to escape, he returns to America and uses it to combat crime and terrorism.
The film is light and bright and the special effects are impressively crafty. But Robert Downey Jr.’s work is what makes this film more than a run-of-the-mill superhero film. His work here is funny, human, heroic and completely engaging. He gives both Stark and Iron Man a little swagger and coolness which are a refreshing change from the nerdy or stiff origin stories of the preceding heroes.
